Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.

Apollo-Ridge High School received an Amazon grant for instructional materials for two computer classes.

Amy Guido, Apollo-Ridge’s business and computer teacher, applied to the Amazon Future Engineers program in 2018 for curriculum and class materials for a computer class.

Guido had been using a curriculum supplied by Amazon and students liked it while they were also learning valuable skills, she said.

“We had planned on continuing to use this program, but we thought were going to have to purchase the licenses for the future,” she said.

Not so.

The Amazon grant will provide class materials for two new classes at the high school: Introduction to computer science and AP computer science.

The funding for the classes will continue into 2020, Guido said.
