Frontier Airlines flight attendants continue to accept tips

Frontier Airlines plane.

Happy with your service, you can still tip your Frontier Airlines flight attendant.

Frontier Airlines has been allowing tips on items purchased in-flight for three years, but as of the beginning of the year the tips can now be kept by the individual attendant, rather than pooled and split as was previously done.

The Denver-based, low-cost carrier offers the option to add gratuity on the digital tablets used to order food and drinks on its flights.

“We appreciate the great work of our flight attendants and know that our customers do as well, so [the payment tablet] gives passengers the option to tip,” Frontier spokesman Jonathan Freed told Bloomberg on Friday. “It’s entirely at the customer’s discretion, and many do it.”

Bloomberg also reported that flight attendants can turn off the tipping option on purchase if they choose.

Currently no other airline asks passengers to tip flight attendants on purchases and the Association of Flight Attendants International, which represents 50,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines, opposes the practice.

Frontier flies direct to eight cities from Pittsburgh International Airport.
