Samsung's version of Apple's AirDrop launching next month
Samsung Galaxy owners may soon be able to directly transfer files between devices.
Apple users have long been able to send photos and other files among Macs and iOS devices using the company’s AirDrop service. The function does not use email or texting, but sends files to any Apple device across Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Samsung is developing their own version of AirDrop, dubbed Quick Share, to move files between Galaxy devices that are near each other, reports XDA Developers.
Of course, the function can be turned off or restricted to people in your contacts list to prevent unsolicited files from nearby strangers, according to XDA Developers.
Quick Share is rumored to have the ability to temporarily store files in the cloud to make them available to SmartThings connected home devices, XDA reports. The files may be limited to 1GB in size with a daily limit of 2GBs transferred per day.
Samsung users have been using Google’s Files Go app or similar third-party apps to move files.
XDA expects the Quick Share service to be included in Galaxy S20+, due to release Feb. 11, but may take longer to arrive on older Samsung phones and tablets.
