A man stretched the limits of shoplifting, and his waistband, when he slid a chainsaw down his pants in a California store.

Jeff Bennett of RG Equipment in Fresno told the Fresno Bee his security camera caught the suspect Wednesday stuffing the chainsaw blade in his pants and then covering the bulky engine assembly with his jacket.

A second camera recorded the suspect driving away in a silver late-1990s Dodge Ram pickup.

Bennett told the Fresno Bee he believes the thief had an accomplice who had been “scoping out” the store last week.

“You get a feel for these people,” Bennett told the Fresno Bee.
