Chick-fil-A, the fast-food chain that is never open on Sundays, was serving up its menu on a recent Sunday at one Alabama location — for a very special reason.
The chain made an exception a few weeks ago for Elijah Sprague, a young man with autism celebrating his 14th birthday, WKRG in Mobile, Ala., reports.
Elijah’s uncle, Walt Gilstrap, is the store’s general manager. He and the owner decided to open up and let Elijah run the drive-through window — something he’s always wanted to do.
WKRG reports about 40 cars passed through the drive-through and got a cookie from Elijah, according to his mom, Rene Sprague.
“The way people love this kid amazes me,” she wrote on Facebook. “It has truly changed the way I live my life. Loving people with your whole heart, judgements aside and with no anticipation of rewards. Thank you to every single person that loves our Elijah.”
After his stint in the drive-through was over, Elijah, his family and friends celebrated inside with a party and cookie cake.
