There are many ways to upstage a wedding.

Maybe two guests wearing the same dress. Perhaps too much open bar action.

Or, you could upstage one wedding with another.

Seems like that’s what happened recently in Surat, a city in western India.

The Times of India reports a couple’s planned nuptials were called off when the groom’s father and the bride’s mother decided to get a bit married themselves.

The couple went missing 10 days ago, the Times reports. The families just reported them missing to police.

According to a family relative, the groom’s father, Rakesh, a 48-year-old textile businessman and the bride’s mother, Swati, 46, a broker, have a bit of a history.

“They knew each other since they lived in same society,” the relative told the Times. “Some of their close friends informed us after they eloped that they had a relationship in the past too. However, Swati got engaged with her current husband in Navsari.”

The wedding was scheduled for the second week in February, but has been called off.

For now.
