An Iowa family discovered a bloody mess in their basement. Five inches of animal blood, fat and tissue, to be specific.
Nick Lestina, a father of five, stopped home on Oct. 3 and found his sump pump spewing red liquid, reports the Des Moines Register.
The blood and guts had seeped into Lestina’s basement through a floor drain from a neighboring meat locker.
“Some things you just think you’ll never see,” Lestina told the Register.
The family has lived next door to Dahl’s Custom Meat Locker for 10 years and never had a problem. But two weeks later, the Register reports, the blood is still seeping into the basement while the Lestinas stay with relatives.
“I’ve had a company come out for cleaning and sanitizing, but they can’t start that process until it stops coming up the drain,” Lestina told the Register. “I’ve been talking to different excavation people. It hasn’t been a promising deal. I need dry weather.”
The meat locker butchers animals, including cattle, hogs, goats, chickens and hunters’ game.
