FBI: Thomas Crooks acted alone in attempted assassination of Trump in Butler County
The FBI has concluded that Bethel Park’s Thomas Crooks acted alone in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler County during the 2024 presidential campaign.
FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital that the bureau briefed President Trump on the findings of the investigation and he was “satisfied with the results and where we left it.”
“We have reviewed this case over and over – looked into every nugget. We have spoken to the families, the president – there is no cover-up here. There is no motive for it, there is no reason for it,” added FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.
Shots fired by Crooks at a campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds on July 13, 2024, struck Trump’s right ear, killed Corey Comperatore of Buffalo Township and seriously injured David Dutch of Plum and James Copenhaver of Moon. A Secret Service sniper fatally shot Crooks, 20.
Fox News Digital, citing an unnamed senior official, said the FBI conducted more than 1,000 interviews, executed over 10 search warrants, issued more than 100 subpoenas, analyzed 35 accounts and 14 electronic devices linked to Crooks, and reviewed more than 500,000 electronic files during its investigation. Nearly 500 FBI employees were involved in the probe, the official said.
“There is no individual that is outside U.S. borders or inside U.S. borders that had any role in directing him, inspiring him or assisting him in any way — and that includes foreign governments,” the official said.
The official said the case stands in a “pending, inactive” status, but the bureau would continue to investigate should it receive a “credible lead” in the future.
The FBI told TribLive that it had nothing further to add beyond what the bureau officials told Fox News Digital and information released on its website.
