An elderly man brought a group of nurses at a hospital in England a ‘thank you’ present for caring for a relative. However, what he didn’t know was the cake he presented them with was laced with cannabis, the BBC News reports.
It turns out the cake was leftover from his grandson’s birthday party, Cheshire Police said.
Luckily, the buzz-worthy gift was caught before too much damage was done to the staff at Warrington Hospital, just west of Liverpool.
“Only one member of staff ate a small piece of cake, did not suffer any ill effects, did not care for any patients afterwards and finished their shift,” said a hospital spokesperson. The staff noticed a “strange odor” from the cake, and a senior staffer contacted police.
Police tested the cake, and indeed found it to contain cannabis. The cake was destroyed.
A spokesperson for the police said they weren’t filing any charges against the grandson, but they did give him a few “strong words of advice.”
The spokesperson said the hospital is training its staff to be more cautious about “edible gifts.
