A Louisiana man drowned during a dream vacation to Tanzania as he proposed to his attorney girlfriend, who never even got the chance to give him her answer.

Kenesha Antoine revealed in a heartbreaking Facebook post on Friday that her boyfriend, Steven Weber Jr., died while he popped the big question underwater. The social media tribute also included photographs of the stunt and video of Weber swimming underwater with a note zipped inside a plastic bag.

“I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you, but everything I love about you I love more every day,” it reads.

Weber can then be seen in video flipping the note over to show the other side — “Will you marry me?” the sign asks — before pulling out a ring box and flipping it open.

“You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer. ‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!’” Antoine wrote.

“We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable. I will try to take solace in the fact that we enjoyed the most amazing bucket list experiences these past few days, and that we both were so happy and absolutely giddy with excitement in our final moments together.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy and Weber’s cause of death remain unclear. According to his Facebook profile, he worked as an “RA at St. Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center.”

Antoine remembered him as her “perfect love,” her “angel” and “soul.”

“You were a bright light to everyone you encountered. You never met a stranger, and you brought so much joy to so many people,” she wrote.

“You were kind, compassionate, you regularly made me cry with laughter, and you showered me with a love like none I’d ever experienced.”
