Man uses Roman candle to remove hornet nest; roof ignites
In case it’s not obvious, using fireworks to remove a hornet nest on a wood house soaked with flammable liquid is a bad idea.
Dave Schmida, 21, learned that lesson while removing a nest of hornets three stories up on his family home in Sturbridge, Mass., the Telegram reports.
Schmida first tried the traditional method: a can of Raid.
When that didn’t work, he stepped it up.
“So I brought out a Roman candle,” he told the Telegram.

It worked. After three or four shots, the nest went up in flames. But so did the eaves of the house.
“I did get rid of the bees, so I would say mission accomplished,” he told the Telegram.
His brother, Matthew, captured the debacle on video and shared it with the world via Twitter.
