Maryland mom charged with killing 3-year-old daughter, lying about abduction: police
A Maryland woman is facing charges after police said she killed her 3-year-old daughter and then said that the girl had been abducted at gunpoint.
Darrian Randle, 31, is charged with first-degree and second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death of a minor, false reporting and other related offenses.
Maryland police said that Randle initially reported that she was driving along the the 500 block of Gender Road in Newark, Delaware, on Tuesday when she pulled over because her daughter was upset.
Police said that Randle then told them that a strange man approached her and held her at gunpoint before kidnapping her daughter, Nola Dinkins.
Randle described the man to police as a 40-year-old white man wearing a black hoodie and gray basketball shorts, according to NBC10. She also claimed there the man was in a car being driven by a blonde, white woman.
An Amber Alert was issued for Dinkens, but it was canceled Wednesday morning after investigators determined that Randle had lied.
Police then went to her home in North East, Maryland, where they met her boyfriend, Cedrick Antoine Britten, 44.
After determining she was in the area of Perryville Community Park, police managed to recover the remains of a young child in a vacant lot. The remains have not been identified yet.
Britten is being charged with accessory to first- and second-degree murder after the fact, failure to report child death, and other related criminal charges.
Randle is currently in custody at the New Castle County Division of Police in Delaware and awaiting extradition to Maryland. Britten is in police custody in Maryland.
