A fisherman in New York City caught more than he bargained for when he pulled a dead body out of the waves instead of the usual fish.

The New York Post reports that Edmond Stringa, 69, of Queens was fishing Tuesday afternoon off of a pier in Brooklyn when he noticed his hook caught on to something dense.

“It was really heavy,” said Stringa to the Post. “When I pulled it out a little bit, I saw the shoes, the pants. I thought it was suspicious. I knew it wasn’t a fish.”

According to NY Daily News, Stringa proceeded to call 911, upon which the responding authorities found the corpse floating in the water by Canarsie Pier. Reports state that decomposition is so far advanced that examiners were unable to properly identify the body.

The investigation for this case remains ongoing.
