BATON ROUGE, La. — An 11-year-old boy stole a school bus Sunday morning and lead Louisiana officers on a chase before crashing into a tree, authorities said.

Baton Rouge Police said the boy was not injured in the crash, news outlets reported.

Police spokesperson Sgt. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said the boy took the bus from the parking lot of the Progress Head Start Center.

McKneely said police started getting phone calls about a juvenile driver around 9:45 a.m.

The boy crashed into three vehicles and lead multiple police officers on a chase before crashing into a tree.

The young boy was arrested and charged with theft of a vehicle, aggravated flight, three counts of damage to property and one count of aggravated assault. The aggravated assault charge comes from the boy “purposely trying to strike a vehicle,” according to police.
