Hurricane Helene cut a destructive path through Florida and Georgia before weakening into a tropical storm over Georgia on Friday. Helene made landfall overnight in northwestern Florida as a Category 4 storm. At least 11 people have died so far in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp said.

Authorities continue to rescue people trapped by floodwaters and millions were without power across much of the southeastern U.S.

Helene came ashore amid warnings from the National Hurricane Center that the enormous system could create a “nightmare” storm surge.

Here are images from Helene’s destruction.
