BOSTON — Massachusetts State Police say a teenager suffered severe injuries in an apparent leap from a Boston courthouse’s fourth-floor interior balcony.

The teenager was facing domestic assault charges in juvenile court, but was not in custody. He had been released after his arrest and came to court Monday morning on his own accord.

A state police spokesman says in an email that the teen jumped from a balcony facing an inner atrium down to the first floor at the Edward W. Brooke courthouse just before 11 a.m. He was transported to a Boston hospital. The nature of his injuries was not immediately clear.

No additional information was released. State police are investigating.
