A livestock truck carrying piglets Thursday flipped onto its side, killing about 120 of the animals.

The driver of the rig lost control on a near an on-ramp on Interstate 35 near Des Moines, Iowa, reports the Des Moines register.

About 100 of the young pigs were found dead at the scene but 17 others were seriously injured and were euthanized, Animal Rescue League of Iowa CEO Tom Colvin told the Register.

“They were suffering,” he told the Register.

Animal Rescue League of Iowa sent a team to assist the piglets.

The surviving piglets were loaded into trucks and trailers and continued on to their destinations, according to the Register.
