It didn’t take long in 2026 for a new giant statue to appear on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
This time, it’s a replica of a birthday note and crude drawing signed “Donald J. Trump” and a “Donald” signature that was part of a 2003 book of 50th birthday wishes for Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in 2019, the Washington Post reported. It appeared Monday morning.
Trump has denied writing the note and has told reporters that the signature isn’t his, the Post said.
“Kudos to these Trump Deranged Liberals for constantly inventing new ways to light Democrat donor money on fire by spreading fake news,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson wrote in an email on Monday, questioning when statues would go up of Democrats who she said had connections to Epstein.
The birthday note is the second statue featuring Epstein, following the “Best Friends Forever” bronze statue that appeared in the fall, which depicted Trump and Epstein holding hands.
The latest installation of artwork critical of Trump was made by a group that calls itself “The Secret Handshake,” according to the Post. Other statues have included the “Dictator Approved” statue of a gold thumb squashing the crown of the Statue of Liberty — as well as the first satirical, controversial giant poop emoji statue meant to “honor” the Jan. 6 insurrectionists.
The birthday note is located on Third Street NW between Jefferson and Madison drives, the same place the others were, and stands 10 feet high by 12 feet wide, the Post said.
A National Park Service permit allows the statue to remain on the National Mall through Friday.
In front of the birthday card, there’s a stack of marble blocks resembling a filing cabinet, with each drawer labeled “The Files.” They are overflowing with strips of paper, according to the Post.
There’s a box of Sharpies on top of the files, with an invitation for people to sign the card with a message to the Trump administration. “Please refrain from any promotional, violent or hateful speech or it will be removed,” it reads.
The right half of the birthday card is a sketch of a woman’s nude form, which includes dialogue between “Donald” and Jeffrey” inside of the sketch.
“We have certain things in common, Jeffrey,” “Donald” says. “Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?
“Happy birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
On the permit application, the artists wrote that the purpose of the work was “to use creative and artistic free speech about one of the most relevant political issues of this moment, and to highlight the conversation about President Donald Trump’s friendship and relationship with Jeffrey Epstein using his own reported language and correspondence. As well, to highlight the heavily redacted files that have been released and those that haven’t,” according to the Post.
