President Donald Trump.

President Trump is expected to present his plan for the nation’s economy on Wednesday to economists from Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago.

The Economic Club of Pittsburgh will join with fellow Economic Club members from those major cities, as well as Florida and Sheboygan, for a 45-minute webcast Wednesday morning. Trump will speak for 30 minutes during the event, then presidents of the Economic clubs of New York and Florida will be able to ask the president questions about his economic policy for about 10 minutes, said Risa Kumazawa, president of the local Economic Club.

The Economic Club presidents who will have a vitual meeting with Trump situated in the White House prior to the webcast, which is by invitation only, said Kumazawa, an associate professor of economics at Duquesne University.

Trump is running for a second term as the unemployment rate is at 7.9% for September, which is down from 14.7% in April, when the covid-19 restrictions slammed the economy.

Democratic Party presidential nominee Joe Biden also was invited to participate in the website at the same time as Trump, but his campaign had not yet responded to the request as of late Tuesday afternoon, said Kumazawa. The economists could hear from Biden at a future date in a separate webcast, Kumazawa said.

Kumazawa said she was not certain how many members of the Economic Club of Pittsburgh will listen to the webcast, but expected tens of thousands across the nation will listen to his speech.
