The numeral 3 tags this as a compact car, similar to other manufacturers’ use of the digit to indicate their diminutive cars.
Volkswagen started taking orders Wednesday for European customers.
The ID.3 will start at about $33,000 in Germany with the first special edition coming in below $44,000 with a range of 260 miles on a charge.
This is VW’s push toward offering “more than 20 purely electrically driven models and more than a million vehicles sold annually, all of which being both networked and emission-free” by 2025.
There will be more vehicles in the ID. model series. Look for the ID. CROZZ, ID. VIZZION and ID. ROOMZZ concept cars to get numerical names in the near future.
