MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Two fired West Virginia sheriff’s deputies are set to return to work after a sheriff declined to appeal their reinstatement related to a traffic stop in which a handcuffed teenage boy was kicked and punched.
News outlets report Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller announced last week he wouldn’t appeal a hearing board’s reinstatement of deputies Austin Ennis and Chris Merson. Keller says in a news release the deputies have agreed to unspecified disciplinary action and will return to their jobs on Monday.

Two state police troopers also were fired. One of them was indicted in federal court, accused of using excessive force.
A police dashcam video released last month shows two officers yanking the teen through an open window. One of the officers then kicked and punched the handcuffed teen on the ground and kneeled on his shoulder.
