Letter to the editor: A counterpart to March Madness

With March Madness over, I am reminded that the further a team goes, the harder the loss is felt. Former Pitt women’s basketball coach Agnus Berenato once said, “Only one team ends its season with a win.” This is a hard truth.

That being said, I propose yet another basketball tournament: the Last Tournament Left (LTL). When a team plays its last game of the season, whether regular-season or NCAA championship, it automatically receives a bid to the LTL. In the LTL, a win eliminates the team from the tournament, thus ending their season on a win. The team that loses the antichampionship determines the country’s worst team and is the only team to end its season on a loss. The losing team receives the Golden Skunk Trophy and a generous portion of the tournament proceeds for their (likely sad) NIL account.
