Letter to the editor: A second Trump term will ruin much
I want Joe Biden to win this election. I feel as if the First Amendment is at risk in a social experiment to turn outrage to rage, and it must stop. I am shocked at the opinions some people express in the Letters section.
Rage is an inner breakdown of morals and values. It can start with something innocuous like schadenfreude — deriving pleasure from someone else’s misfortune.
Most of us in this community have our morals intact, but there are some who watch President Trump and say, “Why not be entertained?” Cute little children terrified as they are separated from their mothers? “Grab ’em by the (expletive)”? When a Black man, a citizen with the same civil rights as you, is shot and they watch the video, do they turn to their own white children and smile? They know in their hearts it’s wrong; in their guts, it’s nuts.
Coronavirus is killing us, too. There was no reason we should have done so poorly with the virus. But Trump knew the truth early on and lied. He puts his supporters in danger as easily as anyone else. Aren’t you scared? Amassing crowds and making fun of people who wear masks, while he says he’s OK because he is very far away from everyone else.
Dead and injured soldiers are losers, bone spurs guy allegedly says.
Come on, people! We have a chance to return to something we enjoyed before this schadenfreude. In my lifetime, every Republican president in their second term has ruined the economy. Imagine the economy, and the many other things that will be ruined, if Trump has a second term. Please make it stop.
