“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” — “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens

God forbid that the writer of the letter Backward steps on abortion” (Feb 19, TribLive), who offers to sacrifice the lives of preborn children to decrease the global population, should volunteer himself to leave the world prematurely, but it would be more genuine to do so.

Check your facts: There are not too many people on the planet. An unplanned pregnancy doesn’t guarantee that one will be “a burden on society, institutionalized, in jail or on the street.”

You’ve had 51 years of abortion on demand to solve the problems you continue to pretend that it will solve. In all that time there’s been no reduction in the social issues you mention.

Women deserve better than abortion.
