In his column “Happy Birthday, President Biden” (Nov. 19, TribLIVE), Joseph Sabino Mistick cites President Biden’s record as president as a major reason Democrats scored an upset in the midterms. Biden’s legislation passed because the Democrats held majorities in both houses chaired by experienced legislators A lot of this legislation fueled inflation, increasing living costs of gas, food, home heating and more to voters.

Democratic leaders knew they needed a win to get voters to overlook soaring inflation, Biden’s Afghanistan disaster, his unwillingness to enforce federal laws at the southern border, making entry to illegal immigrants and deadly fentanyl easy, and giving away our energy independence. Polls indicated a strong Republican showing.

Biden and the Democrats were saved by the leaking of the Supreme Court’s draft which concluded abortion law should be made state by state. This theft switched media and voter attention away from Biden’s policy record. It galvanized the left. Protests in front of Supreme Court justices’ homes were nightly TV fare. Money poured into Democratic campaigns. Incumbent Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto campaigned heavily on the abortion issue. She spent $47 million to the Republican challenger’s $13 million, yet barely won.

Was the draft leak election cheating? Technically no, but where is the media outrage? Shouldn’t the FBI have been able to identify and charge the perpetrator(s) by now?

Mistick is wrong that Biden’s legislative victories won the midterm day for many Democrats. The leaker did.
