I cannot imagine the difficulty a woman goes through when she finds out she has an unwanted pregnancy. Yet there are truths about the situation that cannot be denied.

The moment of conception is the beginning of a unique individual having received 23 chromosomes each from her and her partner. Those 46 chromosomes are what make each of us unique individuals — no one else in the world having that combination. The preborn is in a woman’s body, but is not the same as the woman’s body.

When living in Ohio, I became aware of a gathering at a church that counseled many women who, years after their own abortions, were deeply regretting those decisions. I am sure there are many men who long for the son or daughter they would have had except for abortion.

I recall when abortion became legal in 1972. Many of us have opposed it ever since. This issue has affected many through all generations, and I, for one, would love to see women make that difficult choice that continues the life of that unique individual growing within them. Many groups are willing to aid women in this situation.
