Letter to the editor: Accusations against military dangerous
On Feb. 17 on CNN, President Biden spoke about “the impact of former military, former police officers, on the growth of white supremacy.” In his position as commander in chief, this is an attack on the people who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms.
It began earlier with the unprecedented accusation against the National Guard that were acting as a buffer against alleged threats to the inauguration. Guard members were investigated by authorities for “links to extremist groups.” The Department of Defense, under the new administration, started sounding the alarms about “extremism” within the ranks, and the new secretary of Defense directed “stand downs” to root out this alleged evil. Meanwhile, China and Russia are acting in concert to increase their military presence in key strategic areas.
Biden needs to stop this new policy of division. A military that is focused on anything but protecting us from armed aggressors will fail. Just as a house divided against itself will fail, so will a country. The breach of trust is against the people of the United States, not just the brave men and women who defend her.
