“As my information changes, so do my views.” — Plato
Above is the bare minimum of reason and logic. Setting aside emotions and politics to focus one’s thoughts and actions on facts and truth.
In 2024, our region has seen a 49% increase in precipitation and temperatures almost 3 degrees above the 30-year average. Since 1950, Pennsylvania has had eight years with over 30 tornadoes. Half of those are in the last decade, and it’s only June. Please, don’t take my word for it. Research it yourself.
No matter what we do today, it will only get worse before it gets better, and the cost burden will fall on us.
Though it is too late for us, it is imperative that we act decisively and break this cycle for our children, replacing ignorance with data. We must urgently address climate change with actions and votes, implementing sustainable solutions and curbing greenhouse gas emissions. The onslaught of extreme weather, precipitation and escalating temperatures will persist, but the actions we take today will benefit future generations.
Our children will look back 50 years from now and wonder why we didn’t do more. History books will answer those questions. Misinformation campaigns. Propaganda fueled by profits. Lazy, willfully ignorant masses who refused to look at the data easily available to them.
The urgency of our children’s well-being cannot be overstated. Delaying action is a luxury they cannot afford. Their destiny hinges on our choices . Put our children’s needs above our own selfish desires. Prioritize the legacy and world we leave for our children above all else.
