Letter to the editor: Advice for Gov. Tom Wolf

Tribune-Review

Gov. Wolf: It appears you refuse to deliberate with the General Assembly, or hear constituents, concerning covid-19 and instead make decisions alone. You decide what we do — if we go to church, school or work; if we go bankrupt, stay in business, feed our family, or survive things more serious than the virus.

You determine essential suppliers/businesses, then close demand/suppliers; you prolong the lockdown, then say you feel our pain; you spend our grandchildren’s money, while supposedly helping us; you want to trace our travels, to keep us healthy; you take away our freedom, to keep us safe; and you choose which counties to reopen, regardless of data.

Your selection of unopened counties is curious. On May 8 you scheduled 13 more counties to open May 15. Two of those counties were in the southcentral region. Why would you not open Adams, Bedford, Mifflin, Perry, Huntingdon and Juniata also? You excluded 313,220 people with 291 cases and three deaths in 50 days. It must be university modeling since it wasn’t common sense or Department of Health data.

It’s time to move through the yellow phase and into the green phase, perhaps with selective testing for an evaluation study. With effective common-sense guidelines at senior care facilities and for vulnerable populations, they would make perfect assessment cases.

Remember, Gov. Wolf, there are more destructive personal issues than covid-19. They are escalating and you, as the only elected official making decisions, are accountable, not the DOH, Carnegie Mellon University or N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
