According to the Gospel of Matthew, Christ listed bearing false witness as an evil that comes from the heart, alongside murder and adultery, illustrating its deep moral corruption. In fact, one of the most egregious examples of false testimony in the Bible is that during his trial, the chief priests sought and got false testimony to condemn Jesus to death.

This brings me to the shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer at around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 7, shortly after she dropped off her 6-year-old son at school. ICE officers after the shooting stood around while Good lay bleeding. She later died in the hospital. Good, an upstanding citizen going about her day, was the mother of three children who had studied English at Old Dominion University in Virginia, where she won an Academy of American Poets Award in 2020.

Here is what the current White House denizen posted on his anti-Truth anti- Social platform that afternoon about this young woman: “We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!”

If this isn’t bearing false witness, I don’t know what is. God help us all. Any one of us could be next. Murdered and vilified.
