By now many have probably heard that the Allegheny County executive is proposing to raise county property taxes by 46.5%. Not only is this an obscene and unaffordable increase, but Allegheny County taxes, at the current rate, are already among the highest in the country. According to tax-rates.org, Allegheny County ranks 259th of 3,143 counties in median property taxes.

Residents already pay 4.09% of their yearly income to the county. Taxpayers want to keep more of their money to distribute according to their needs and interests, not the county’s. It is time to give taxpayers a break, not an increase.
