Letter to the editor: Allegheny County's voter rolls should be cleaned up

Tribune-Review

The election of November 2024 is going to be a historic one. Pennsylvania will be a pivotal state. Allegheny County should be prepared for close scrutiny and have its voter rolls in order. Right now, they aren’t.

The county reported 900,464 on the rolls in the November 2023 election. Over 91,000 of those are listed as inactive, and over 83,000 have never voted. There are 226 actively on the rolls who have not voted since 1983-89. About 8,000 last voted between 1990 and 2009. Over 63,000 last voted between 2010 and 2018, partly because thousands have moved and are still on the active rolls.

In addition, 184 people have their date of birth listed as Jan. 1, 1800; 510 people are registered with only initials for their first or first and middle names. There are at least 17 on the rolls who were shown to have voted after their death date as found in an obituary. Many on the rolls have died, and 14 active voters are listed as living in memory care facilities.

These plus other inaccuracies need to be addressed immediately. Our rolls need to be cleaned up before the election so we can be assured of the accuracy of our election results.
