Letter to the editor: Animosity toward Kirk beyond 'disparaging'
I found the Associated Press article “After Charlie Kirk’s killing, a growing chorus of conservatives wants his critics ostracized or fired” (Sept. 14, TribLive) very misleading, shifting focus from where it belongs.
The line “Some conservatives are seeking to upend the lives and careers of those who disparaged Charlie Kirk after his death” makes it sound like a witch hunt for those who disagreed with Kirk.
The Webster definition of disparaged is: To belittle the importance or value of (someone or something). To speak slightingly about (someone or something).
No one is concerned with critics that had some “disparaging” comments or opinions. Most of us can disagree in a civil manner.
The people in question are those who openly celebrated Kirk’s death, some with an almost evil glee. All because they disagreed with his opinions? That to me, is not disparaging, but truly sickening.
Should they lose their jobs? I know I wouldn’t want a person like that as a co-worker, teaching my children, or even cooking my food at a restaurant. Would you?
