Finally the Supreme Court has upheld the First Amendment and declared it unlawful to close houses of worship (“High court blocks N.Y. coronavirus limits on houses of worship,” Nov. 26, TribLIVE). If that is unlawful, why are governors allowed to close small businesses and punish American working-class citizens, rob us of our freedoms, take away our purpose for living, destroy our livelihoods and make us dependent on the government?

We are becoming more and more desperate and depressed; some have committed suicide, while others have become drug abusers or alcoholics. Many have lost their jobs, businesses and homes. Some are suffering form child or spousal abuse. Children are being deprived of a proper education.

How long are we the people going to allow this dictatorship? We are being treated like small children who need to be told what to do, as if we have no common sense, no ability to think and make decisions that are right for us.

Have the governors instilled such fear in us that we are no longer free, that our democracy is a sham? I pray not.
