As a 70-year-old female, I vividly remember growing up during the Cold War and the school drills where we cowered under desks to prepare for nuclear bombs. I was 11 when President Kennedy avoided a nuclear crisis with Russia shortly before his assassination. Those years scarred me, as I have never slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night, fearing I was never going to grow up, have a family, have a career or be able to pursue all the dreams I had as a child.

However, even though the talk of nuclear bombs had a profound effect on me, I never had to witness an actual school shooting, never was traumatized by having to see my friends lying dead and/or wounded in a classroom. My fears were baseless compared to what children and young adults have to face in schools daily in the USA today. The children who survive these events will be traumatized for life, and those who do not will never realize their dreams.

So we are worried about the rights of unborn children, but child sacrifice in the name of the NRA is OK? And we call ourselves a Christian nation!
