Letter to the editor: Aspinwall council meetings no place for mayoral battle
Although I was not present at the Sept. 8 Aspinwall Borough Council meeting, I read your account (“Aspinwall Councilman David Brown draws fire from council colleagues for claims made on his election website,” Sept. 8, TribLIVE) and have spoken to council members and some audience members quoted in your story. Although this was weeks ago, incumbent Mayor Joe Noro’s supporters continue to leverage their side of the story in an effort to overcome the embarrassing facts about Noro revealed by Brown, a candidate for mayor, on his campaign website.
I support Brown for mayor. But any fair review of what happened Sept. 8 reveals it was a planned ambush. It was not the proper time or place to spring such a trap, and as the regular business of council had been concluded, Brown exercised excellent judgment in simply walking away rather than allowing an out-of-control meeting to devolve into total chaos.
Supporters for both candidates should keep their campaigns out of council meetings. And the council president should be quick to rule such displays out of order, instead of taking sides.
