Letter to the editor: Attacks on candidates meant to distract

If you watched TV or read a newspaper in the last four years, you’ve probably heard and read, ad nauseam, about how President Donald Trump is a misogynist, xenophobic, sexist, racist Russian agent. None of this is probably true, of course, but the reason these types of attacks are lodged is strategic.

America is not ready for socialism, hopefully it never will be. In my opinion, Democrats understand this, so they resort to attempted character assassination of our president and other Republicans. I think the Democratic Party thrives in chaos and confusion, so antifa is a useful arm and tool of their organization.

I don’t think Democrats want to debate the issues — they would rather not talk about how they want gun control, taxpayer-funded abortion, higher taxes for bigger government programs and bad trade deals that put our union brothers and sisters out of work and hurt our middle class.

We were witness to attacks on candidates on a local level in the special election for House District 58 earlier this year. Voters beware: When personal attacks are lodged against any candidate, it’s merely intended to distract voters from what’s really important, which are the issues that impact your life and freedoms.
