Letter to the editor: Audit is not about integrity

Tribune-Review

In his letter “Audit’s goal is to maintain election integrity” (Oct. 1, TribLIVE), Tom Portante insists audit information being demanded by GOP state legislators from 9 million Pennsylvanians who voted in last year’s election, including names, addresses, birth dates, voting records and driver’s license and Social Security numbers, to turn over to some “unnamed third party” for forensic examination protects the integrity of future Pennsylvania elections.

If this audit takes place, we can blame Republican state legislators who’ve permitted our personal information to be made public and allowed millions of voters to become victims of identity theft.

I vote by mail because my autoimmune disease makes me susceptible to covid-19 and its delta variant, and Republican state legislators are aware Pennsylvania voters applying for mail-in ballots because of illness must include statements about their diagnoses and physician contact information on their ballot applications.

This audit has nothing to do with integrity. I believe it’s being done to disseminate false information and to cast doubt on the security of our election process.
