Letter to the editor: Backing Biden for president
I gave up my position as an Allegheny County judge Sept. 4 because I could not sit by as the worst president in history runs for reelection (“Don Walko to resign from Common Pleas Court to pursue political advocacy,” Aug. 25, TribLIVE).
Here are what I see as some of President Trump’s worst actions:
• In the face of the pandemic early on, lied to the American people and promised that it “would go away,” and did not lead a national response.
• Disparaged soldiers who were prisoners of war and, according to reports, called soldiers injured or killed in war “suckers” and “losers.”
• Stepped out of the global effort to combat climate change.
• Supports elimination of Obamacare, which could take away medical protections for people with pre-existing conditions and health care for 20 million Americans.
• Abandoned our allies while kowtowing to vicious autocrats.
• Threatened to withhold vital defense funds from Ukraine to force it to interfere in the 2020 election.
• Defiled the White House by using it for a partisan political convention.
• Allowed his administration to use force to disperse peaceful protesters in violation of the First Amendment in order to clear a path for him to hold a Bible for a photo-op in front of a church.
• With no evidence, attacks the security of mail-in voting even as he weakens the postal service.
Unlike Trump, I believe Joe Biden will accept responsibility for his actions and will not lie to us, and will work to expand health care for Americans.
I am a soldier in the battle to elect Joe Biden president.
Don Walko
