Letter to the editor: Be the match, save a life

Tribune-Review

I read with interest the story of Lucas James and his need for a bone marrow transplant ”Hempfield family fighting son’s leukemia encourages people to join transplant registry,” March 18, TribLive). I am appealing to the community to go to BeTheMatch.org and get on the registry to be a bone marrow donor.

Fourteen years ago, I was contacted by BeTheMatch to be a stem cell and bone marrow donor to a 29-year-old man in Argentina. That young man is now 43 years old and is the proud dad of a 7-year-old. He is free of the severe aplastic anemia that kept him in the hospital for 105 days.

Please, Greensburg, my dear old hometown, go to BeTheMatch.org and register. You , too, could save a life. Give Lucas the chance he deserves.
