Letter to the editor: Biden has not been a unifier
After reading the letter “Trump’s call for unity rings hollow” (Jan. 22, TribLive), I again felt compelled to respond. As usual, the letter-writer either fails to, or refuses to, look at both sides. I agree that President Trump can be less than ideal when addressing his political opponents. And there is the caveat: I can easily address his issues, while the letter-writer seems to refuse to do the same on his side of the aisle.
President Biden ran on being a unifying figure. He has called Trump a “direct threat to democracy.” He has called the millions of supporters of Trump “semi-fascists” and said they “embrace political violence.” I ask anyone, are these the words of a unifier? His sycophants in the media are even more vitriolic against conservatives.
Anyone with a clue can see the left embraces political violence. The mere fact that the Democratic-controlled agencies (IRS, Justice and recently Treasury, demanding banks query transactions with keywords “Trump” and “MAGA”) shows just who the “direct threat to democracy” truly are. And I remind everyone, we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy.
So I tell the letter-writer and everyone two important things: One, judge not by words but by deeds, and two, when you cannot take an unbiased look at your side, you denigrate any debate and show your true lack of integrity.
