Regarding the letter “How is Biden responsible for people who don’t want to work?” (Feb. 27, TribLIVE): It wasn’t all that long ago, back in 2019, that unemployment was low, jobs were plentiful and people were working, and gas prices were somewhat reasonable.

Then covid hit, and the country went into lockdown. People were forced to stay home, only essential companies were permitted to continue operating, students did schooling online, small businesses were threatened and owners were forced to close operations. People were laid off and collected unemployment checks. “Big Brother Government” provided stimulus checks to those who qualified.

People got real comfortable staying home and collecting. As the economy started to pick up and companies were looking for workers, those eligible and qualified chose to continue collecting. It was too easy not to work. There were no consequences or incentives to work. A complacent workforce was created. That’s on President Biden. The buck stops with him.
