Let me correct letter- writer Stephen Sokol (“Half the country who voted for Trump not going away,” Dec. 4, TribLIVE) with some facts, something many of President Trump’s supporters can’t seem to deal with.

Sokol states, “Half the country, 74 million Americans, voted for Donald Trump” and they’re “not going away.” First of all, just over 159 million people voted in the election, out of 239 million eligible voters. By real math, only about 31% of eligible voters went for Trump. Out of the 159 million or so who did vote, 74 million equates to about 47%.

So what about the 81 million-plus who voted for Joe Biden? He secured about 52% of the vote, with the balance going to independent candidates. Biden also won the popular vote by more than 7 million. All of this occurred against a sitting president who simply did a terrible job.

So the people have spoken, but Trump and his followers want to overturn the election with baseless claims of fraud. Pathetic.

Oh and by the way, those 81 million Americans who voted for Biden aren’t going away, either.
