Letter to the editor: Biden's job to restore our dignity
Letter-writer Jack Juris (“Biden will destroy our country,” May 8, TribLIVE) states that President Biden has made our country a laughingstock on the world stage. James Cataldi says “Biden proving to be worst ever” (May 10, TribLIVE). Archie Atkinson says “Biden will ruin country” (May 20, TribLIVE). I see it differently.
Donald Trump made our country a laughingstock on the world stage in July 2018 when, speaking after the Helsinki summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he sided with Russia over the U.S. intelligence agencies that said Russia interfered in the 2016 election — the one and only truly stolen election in my eyes. And there is no president in history who attacked our own country more, so in my opinion, no president could be worse than Trump.
As for ruining our country, in four years, no president has divided our country more than Trump. So there is no doubt in my mind that the Trump presidency ruined this country.
That tells me that these individuals endorse a president who attacks his own country. Maybe they believe Trump and the Republicans’ “big lie” about the election. The big lie is the result of many lies that started with “make America great again” and ended with the unthinkable attack on the Capitol and our democracy.
I suggest they play the Lee Greenwood song “God Bless the U.S.A.” that Trump has shamed with the film of the Capitol riot. It will show what Trump truly thinks of this country.
Biden has a tough job ahead of him, trying to restore the pride and dignity that Trump took out of this country.
