Take a good look around your community. Right now, there are American families in harm’s way if President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful bill” passes the Senate. The most vulnerable members of our community — children, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities — will lose lifesaving services.

The package includes austere measures deeply cutting into two of the nation’s key safety net programs — Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Millions of Americans will lose their health care. Funding for Medicaid would be slashed by nearly $700 billion (or more). SNAP would see a cut of $267 billion (or more) in federal support, taking food from children, seniors, people with disabilities and veterans.

Although fortunate citizens may not suffer under this bill, our neighbors and fellow Americans deserve better. Inhumane cuts in the name of fraud, waste and abuse do not solve problems. Such measures only serve to hurt our community.
