Letter to the editor: Bizzarro endorsed by many

The writer of the letter ”Bizzarro’s lack of leadership” (March 26, TribLive) accuses Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for state treasurer, of not supporting reproductive freedom. It is ridiculous to believe that over 150 pro-choice Democratic leaders — from U.S. Congress members like Mary Gay Scanlon to state Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes to Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton — would endorse Bizzarro if this were the case. The list of endorsements on Bizzarro’s website is truly stunning.

The writer’s favored candidate, meanwhile, campaigned and accepted donations months before she registered a fundraising committee with the Department of State, a requirement for all candidates for state office. It is ironic and frankly troubling that someone seeking the office of treasurer cannot even follow basic campaign finance rules.

As Bizzarro is nearly certain to win the nomination for treasurer, one has to wonder why a fellow Democrat is working so hard to denigrate him. Does he want the Republican to win in November? To quote U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean: “I stand with candidates who are pro-democracy and pro-women’s rights. In the race for Pennsylvania treasurer, that’s Ryan Bizzarro. Stacy Garrity is too extreme for our commonwealth.”
