Letter to the editor: Blame our bad news on the 'swamp'

Tribune-Review

Recent news headlines: “Surges of violent crime cripple American cities.” “Gangs of young people destroy retail stores.” “Food and gas prices hit record levels.” “Over 60% of Americans now live paycheck to paycheck.” “Bidenomics takes 2.1 trillion from American 401(k)s.” “NewYork hospitals overflow with illegal immigrants.” “Fentanyl smuggled from Mexican border accounts for over 100,000 deaths.” “Federal debt reaches $96,000 per citizen.”

Where does the blame lie? Well, the Washington, D.C., swamp has become groups of lifetime, permanent, powerful politicians, bureaucrats and lobbyists whose No. 1 objective is to protect their jobs and lavish incomes. And they support progressive, big government, socialist spending programs to attract uninformed or unsophisticated voters to keep the “swamp” in office.

But socialism has not worked in any country it was tried (the Soviet Union, Venezuela). Whereas conservative principles like free markets, equal opportunities, peace through strength and rule of law have produced enviable economic results and maximum freedoms here in the USA.

One ex-president who openly challenged this D.C. swamp ended up facing two impeachments and having his home raided by the FBI and his taxes investigated, and now faces 91 civil and criminal indictments while he tries to run for president again.
