Letter to the editor: Bowers' sanity shouldn't be issue

As the Robert Bowers trial seemed to be winding up, I kept ruing the fact that I hadn’t composed a letter because I feared it would no longer be topical. I am finally putting pen to paper realizing that, damn, it looks like it might be topical for a while. So here goes.

First off, I found it amusing that psychiatrists were consulted about Bowers’ state of mind. I find them to be the craziest bunch that ever set foot on the earth. I guess it falls into the category that it takes one to know one. Marlena from “Days of Our Lives” was a brilliantly conceived role. To those who didn’t watch, she was a psychiatrist who thought she knew what was wrong with everyone, except herself, of course. Doctor, heal thyself.

I think Bowers’ sanity shouldn’t be at issue. Look what a horrible crime he committed. A simple extrapolation yields a tidy result. You’d have to be crazy to do what he did — crazy people do crazy things.

The only thing that the trial should shed light on is the death penalty. I’m not in favor of it, but I’ve been wrong before. One thing I do know, though, is that there is a pristine quantum situation: If you look for particles, you will find them. If you look for waves, you will find them, too. Under our present understanding, is it irresolvable?
