Driving at night is becoming so much more difficult because of vehicles being manufactured with LED headlights. When these lights are coming toward you, or if you are sitting at a stoplight with them facing you or behind you in your rearview mirror, you are blinded. Whoever came up with the idea of putting LED headlights in vehicles must not have had much concern for older people, or people with vision problems.

These headlights make it seem like high beams are coming at you constantly. A recent New York Times article focused on these overly bright headlights being the reason for many accidents. The National Safety Council states that 50% of traffic fatalities happen at night.

These lights can blind drivers for a split second, leaving them unable to react quickly enough to avoid an accident. Even though they may give a driver better vision and are more energy efficient, the bluish light causes discomfort to the eyes, whatever your age.

The National Safety Council also states that “depth perception, color recognition and peripheral vision can be compromised in the dark” for drivers of any age.

I don’t like them and feel they are creating a hazard. There are petitions out there that you can sign to help make a change and eliminate these bright HID/LED headlights. If you feel the same way, go to change.org and sign a petition.
