Letter to the editor: Can’t follow Christ and support Trump

I voted for Trump, just as I have voted for every Republican before him since I could register in 1992. I have been to eight of the last 10 Marches for Life in Washington. I was told by Sean Hannity on his radio show that I was his conductor of the Stop Hillary Express. I was an evangelical conservative before it was cool.

I am a Christian, veteran, patriot, father of a soldier, lifelong pro-lifer, the husband of one wife and anti-racist. I know now I have none of those in common with President Trump or many Republicans anymore.

By being led through the words of Jesus by the Holy Spirit, I now know I cannot claim to follow Christ and support Trump. He has failed to appoint any true pro-life justices. He still has signed funding for Planned Parenthood every year he has been in office. He has played us for fools. In addition to always having been pro-choice, he has massively increased spending and has positioned America against her allies who fought beside her against the divisive and racist fascists he now seems to idolize.

Love your neighbor. Love your enemy. I was hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. These are commands of Christ that Trump and his ilk continue to ignore. I now know to be pro-Trump is to be anti-Christ, and I refuse to do that. I pray you join me.
